You can help educate your clients, friends and neighbors about this free, 24/7 community resource information line. 2-1-1 staff and volunteers are available to speak at your next staff, church or community meeting. The Directory lists providers of services to senior citizens and is available free to the public by calling the Council on Aging of Buncombe County at 277-8288. Having been unable to locate a summer camp for her grandson, Catherine called 2-1-1 in hopes of getting a referral. Most of the camps that she had looked into were not equipped to handle her grandson’s behavioral problems, and the ones that could were much too expensive for her modest income. Through 2-1-1’s referral, Catherine was able to place her grandson into a summer camp that could manage his behavioral problems, and that provided him with a scholarship to cover the cost of the program.
