United Way's 2-1-1 of WNC |
David had recently been widowed and was struggling to support himself with the sudden loss of half of the household income, and the large remaining funeral expenses. His landlord had allowed him to make payments towards his rent, but after paying all of his bills he did not have enough to buy food. He had signed up for food stamps, but it only provided him with $10 a month. He was trying to find more affordable housing but many places could not accommodate his service dog. After calling 2-1-1, David was able to get connected with a food pantry that would help him with food for the rest of the month, and learned that he might qualify for home delivered meals. And within a few months he will receive housing assistance which will help him to be able to afford all of his bills. |
