Free Tax Assistance
Before you or your clients pay to have your taxes done,
consider this: any household earning less than $40,000 per
year likely qualifies to receive free tax preparation and may
also qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit, which means
more money in your tax return.
Local free tax preparation sites opened on February
1st. 2-1-1 can link you to tax preparation
sites and other helpful
financial resources. For more information,
dial 2-1-1, or search online at www.211wnc.org.
Please help get the word out about
this valuable community resource by distributing the

Resource Spotlight
A New Long-Term
Care Directory
for Buncombe, Henderson, Madison and Transylvania
Counties
Every two years for more than
10 years, the Land-of-Sky Regional Council Ombudsman Program
has published a wire-bound book which includes a full page
description of all of the licensed nursing homes and adult
care homes. The 2006 edition was called the Licensed Nursing
Home and Adult Care Homes Guide. The 2008 edition has
been revised and expanded to include other types of housing
for seniors and disabled individuals, with additional
definitions, and tools for searching for supportive housing.
The additional types of housing included in the 2008 Directory
are Continuing Care Retirement Communities, Multi-Unit
Assisted Housing with Services, and Independent Living
Communities for Senior and Disabled
individuals. The new directory is called the
Long-Term Care Housing Directory. Listings for nursing homes,
adult care homes and family care homes were updated to reflect
current information. Information for the new types of housing
was compiled from various state and local websites and
listings. The 2008 Long-Term Care Housing
Directory can be accessed on-line. You can view and
download the complete guide or county specific sections by
clicking here. Contact Christina Giles at:
828-251-6622 or Christina@landofsfky.org to request a
Directory. | |
